Celecoxib is a prescription medication that was approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 1999 for the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute pain, menstrual cramps, and other forms of pain. It is also used to treat primary dysmenorrhea.
Celecoxib works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. It is commonly prescribed for patients with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute pain, and primary dysmenorrhea.
The FDA initially approved Celecoxib for the treatment of osteoarthritis in June 1984. It is now also used to treat primary dysmenorrhea.
The “ibuprofen” component of Celecoxib is part of the class of medications known as NSAIDs. It is used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and treat pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, muscle spasms, and inflammation of the joints and muscles.
Celecoxib is also used to relieve pain in some cases of ankylosing spondylitis.
The generic version of Celecoxib is Celebrex, which was first approved in 1998.
